Arduino Leonardo - Cannot upload code.

Postby sherin » Tue Jul 03, 2012 3:48 am

Sir,
I can;t install the drivers in windows and the driver installer is saying that the device cannor start (Code 10).
In the device manager is shows an enrey as Arduino Leonardo but with an exclamation mark. I tried several things including updating drivers. No use.
Later I shifted to ubuntu 11.10 .
* Selcted the board as leonardo in software.
* Selected the correct serial port in software.
* Gave enough and more time for arduino to BREATH.
* Tried an errorless blink led example that comes with the software.
* No external circuits attached with leonardo

But when I tried to upload the code it is showing the following error

For windows XP/7 & Linux which version of Arduino Leonardo bootloader/software you are using to communicate with device?

You are using Arduino 1.0.1 thats great.

For a Quick Recap & basic troubleshooting, verify all the steps you followed to connect Arduino Leonardo to Windows XP and Linux.

Here is a step-by-step guide from Arduino Team. Link: http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/ArduinoLeonardo

Try to follow steps as instructed for installing Drivers and loading Code in Windows XP & Linux.

Let me know if it works for you.

No way.
I have tried every possible way of installing drivers in two different XP machines.
A technician from the supplier company (Explorelabs) contacted me and I gave him a teamviewer session to troubleshoot.
He also failed.

In ubuntu I don have any driver issues.
the device gets detected properly.
The LED starts in a fade in fade out manner...after that it keeps on blinking.
TIC TIC TIC ...........TIC TIC TIC (3 consecutive tics)
Anyway it is blinking fast

What you have to say about the error I am getting in ubuntu?

In your Ubuntu, after connecting Leonardo to USB Port, Go to Terminal and
1) type: ls /dev/ttyUSB*
2) type: lsusb

Update me with the results of commands.

Ok. Fine. I hope before running this command on terminal you have connected your Leonardo to USB Port and LED is blinking. Also note that it is connected directly without using any Hub or Extension Cable.

Also post results of these 2 commands so that I can understand that your device is recognized by Ubuntu or not.

1) On Terminal Type: dmesg | grep tty
2) ON Terminal Type: lshw -short

Yes, I have connected the arduino board directly to the motherboard USB port and then I fetched the command outputs, which are the following.

Code: Select all

sherin@xperia-MS-7267:~$ dmesg | grep tty
[    0.000000] console [tty0] enabled
[    0.291850] serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
[    0.291954] serial8250: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
[    0.292308] 00:06: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
[    0.292458] 00:07: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
sherin@xperia-MS-7267:~$ sudo lshw -short

It seems that there is a port conflict issue.
Try this. It may solve your problem.

Uninstall IDE from system. Restart system and Download & Install latest IDE version 1.0.1 32/64 bit version from http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software.

Using IDE 1.0.1 on Ubuntu:

With board plugged in, try this. sudo sh arduino, then click run in terminal.
You should now see entry in Serial Port. To make it permanent, I did this.
sudo usermod -a -G tty yourUserName
sudo usermod -a -G dialout yourUserName

Now just type arduino in arduino folder, run in terminal. Making a launcher will start IDE
from an icon.

If successful or stuck anywhere, post your result with snapshots.

Return to “Arduino”
